When you have dandruff, your scalp becomes itchy and white flakes tend to fall off whenever you touch your hair or run your fingers through it. The good news is there are home remedies that can help you with your dandruff woes and one of them is baking soda. Here are a few tips on how you can use this to beat dandruff problems.

Lemon and baking soda

Baking soda and lemon juice can help you deal with dandruff because lemon acts as a natural astringent that can eliminate any bacteria that may be causing dandruff to appear. You will need 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 and ½ teaspoon of baking soda. Mix the two together until you get a thin paste then apply it on your scalp. Massage the mixture on your scalp for 2 to 3 minutes then rinse it off with cool water.

Rose water mixed with baking soda

Another way to use baking soda when it comes to your dandruff problem is to mix it with rose water. Combine the two together until you create a paste then massage it on your scalp for about 2 to 3 minutes. The baking soda granules can help exfoliate your scalp so that the dry flakes will be removed. Rinse your hair and scalp with cold water. Don’t wash your hair with shampoo afterwards to let the solution do its work.

Coconut oil and baking soda

Coconut oil is a known humectant and emollient which can actually alleviate the itching and dryness so that your scalp will remain moisturized. Honey can be used too as it contains antioxidants that can fight off free radicals that are damaging your scalp. To make this remedy, you will need a tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 and ½ teaspoons of baking soda, and a tablespoon of honey. You will need to combine the three ingredients properly before applying on your scalp. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes then rinse your hair.

Apple cider vinegar and baking soda

Another way to use baking soda is to mix it with apple cider vinegar since the latter contains antiseptic and antibacterial properties that can eliminate the problem on your scalp. You only need to mix the two together until you create a paste which you can apply on your scalp then massage it gently. Rinse your hair afterwards with cold water. This remedy should be repeated twice a week to lessen the amount of flakes that are falling on your scalp.

Tea tree oil and baking soda

Did you know that mixing tea tree oil and baking soda can actually help with your dandruff problem? For this remedy, you will need half a cup of water, 2 teaspoons of baking soda, and a few drops of tea tree essential oil. Mix all the ingredients together then apply on your scalp. You should wash your hair after 15 minutes. This remedy should be done twice a week. What’s great about tea tree oil is that it can help eliminate bacteria, virus, and fungi that may be lingering on your scalp.
