Have you ever experienced a throbbing headache coming from your forehead, cheeks, and the bridge of your nose? Well, this is probably caused by your blocked sinus. Sinus headache is usually triggered when there is an inflammation as well as pressure in the sinus cavities. When the sinus cavities become inflamed because of allergy or even bacterial infection, the outflow of mucus will be disrupted.

Among the symptoms that you will most likely feel with sinus headache are fever, pounding pain, stuffy nose, tender and swollen face, as well as nasal congestion. Fortunately, these symptoms can be relieved using natural remedies. Here are some natural treatments that you should try.

Steam. This home remedy is actually one of the best ways for you to clear up your sinus cavities. Facial steam helps with moistening the nasal passages, relieve the congestion in the sinus cavities, as well as clear up any blockage in the nose. You just need to boil some water then transfer it into a bowl and add a few drops of essential oils like peppermint. Cover your head with a towel and lean over the bowl to inhale the steam. Breathe in through your nostrils and release. Do this for 10 minutes. Drink water afterwards.

Lemon balm. Another effective remedy for sinus headache is lemon balm. Just take a few lemon balm leaves and boil in water for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture and use it as gargle. You should take this mixture twice in a day to help alleviate your sinus headache.

Peppermint oil. There are some types of oils that are also useful when it comes to treating sinus headache and one of them is peppermint oil. What’s great about peppermint oil is that it contains anesthetic, antiviral, insecticidal, carminative, antispasmodic, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties that will help clear the congestion in your nasal passages and to soothe your headache away. You will need to boil some water first before adding a few drops of peppermint oil. Inhale the steam to help clear up your sinuses.

Eucalyptus oil. You should also try inhaling the scent of eucalyptus oil. You can do this by adding a drop or two of this oil in your handkerchief and inhale when you feel that your nose is starting to get clogged. You can also add a few drops of this oil on your pillow so you will find relief from your clogged nose so your sleep won’t be disrupted.

Tea tree oil. Another home remedy that you can use for your sinus headache is tea tree oil. Tea tree oil has antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-bacterial properties which can provide relief from your sinus troubles while treating the root of the problem. You can add some of the oil in your steam treatment or add a drop of tea tree oil in a Q-tip and swab the inside of your nasal cavities with it. This will help lessen the pounding headache caused by your blocked sinus.
