How to Make Your Own Makeup Using Your Pantry

Must read

Women can’t step out of their house without wearing any form of makeup be it something light, like some lipstick and eyeliner, or going out wearing full makeup for a more stylish look. Although, wearing makeup has been part of most women’s daily routine, the chemicals that are used on these products are actually harming our skin in the long run. From triggering acne breakouts because our pores are often clogged by their particles, or causing our skin to dry fast, many are now becoming aware of the advantages of going organic when it comes to their makeup.

If you’ve decided to ease up on the use of chemically laden makeup products, there is one way for you to enhance your assets without spending too much and that is by turning to your pantry. You might be surprised to find that there are plenty of ingredients in your pantry that can actually be used as makeup. Here are some for you to try.

Bronzer

Bronzers can give your pale skin a healthier hue and would you believe that, with just a few ingredients, you will be able to make one on your own? Prepare some arrowroot powder, cinnamon, cornstarch, nutmeg, and cocoa powder. To make your bronzer, simply add a small amount of cocoa powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg on your arrowroot powder or cornstarch until you reach your desired shade. Apply a small amount under your cheekbones then smooth it in upwards motion towards your cheeks. Apply some on your temple and forehead too. Be careful not to use too much of it so your skin won’t look unnatural.

Blush

To give your cheeks that rosy blush, a mixture of arrowroot powder, hibiscus powder, cornstarch, and beet powder is a good place to start in your pantry. Add a small amount of beet or hibiscus powder in arrowroot or cornstarch until you get the desired shade. You can add some cocoa or ginger powder even for different hues if you like. Apply as you would a regular blush.

Lip scrub

Lip scrubs are not that hard to make on your own. You will need some sugar, salt, olive oil, Vaseline, lip balm, and an empty container. Mix all the ingredients until you reach the desired consistency for your lips. Transfer the mixture into your small container and scrub a small amount on your lips to remove dead skin cells. This will not only help reveal smoother lips but the ingredients will help moisture them too.

Powder foundation

Of course, no makeup routine will be complete without your base foundation so you might want to prepare some cornstarch, ginger, bentonite clay, arrowroot powder, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and French green clay. Start by adding small amounts of the ingredients in your base powder which is either cornstarch or arrowroot powder until you achieve your desired shade. To use your homemade powder foundation, simply press your brush gently, tap excess powder, and apply as usual.

Lip stain

If you love berries then using them as ingredients for your lip stain is guaranteed to be something you will enjoy. To make your own lip stain, prepare 3 raspberries, ½ strawberries, 3 blackberries, and ½ teaspoon of almond or olive oil. Microwave all the berries until they become soft and tender to the touch. Mash them afterwards so you can extract their juice. Add the almond oil or olive oil into the mashed berries and then strain the juice afterwards with a coffee filter or cheese cloth. Transfer afterwards to an airtight container and you’re done.
