Herbs are wonderful additions to anyone’s garden as they are not only good for adding flavor to our meals but they can also help heal our bodies. Most of us make use of dried herbs to liven up our dishes but actually growing herbal plants can provide you with numerous rewards. If you are wondering which healing herbs to add to your garden so you can use them every day, here are some that you should consider.

  • Oregano. No herbal garden will be complete without this plant. Apart from giving that extra kick to your pastas, salads, and roasts, oregano is also a fountain of health benefits. This herb contains antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant properties not to mention it has the ability to reduce menstrual cramps and make abdominal pain disappear. It also works as a diuretic so if you are battling colds, this is a good home remedy to use.
  • Calendula. Although this plant may not be a common herb used in the kitchen, it still has some healing properties that you can’t do without. Calendula has actually been used for ages when it comes to treating inflammation in the mouth, stomach, and even throat. It is also used on topical ointments to help heal wounds and reduce rashes and skin irritation. To use this herb, you need to gather two tablespoons of its petals then add a cup of boiling water to them. Let it steep for 10 minutes or so before straining. Use the solution as a mouthwash or gargle to help treat mouth sores and the like.
  • Thyme. One reason why you should add thyme to your herb garden is that it is an effective remedy against colds, asthma, and even sinus infections just to name a few. Other health benefits that are linked to this herb include better digestion, treats sore throat because of its antibacterial properties, and of course, it is high in antioxidant content which means that you can combat free radicals that are causing damage to your body.
  • Echinacea. Echinace is known for its antiviral properties not to mention its abilities to boost one’s immune system. This is often used in treating upper respiratory problems as well as colds. All that you have to do is to simmer 1 teaspoon of dried and sliced root of Echinacea in a cup of hot water for 10 minutes. Drain the solution and drink afterwards. Repeat this three times a day to get its full benefits.
  • Rosemary. This herb is also a popular choice in many herbal gardens because this plant has antioxidants, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It can reduce any inflammation in the body including reducing one’s risk of asthma, heart problems, as well as liver disease.
