The skin is the largest organ in our body and as such is constantly exposed to the elements. It is also a good indicator on how you feel at the moment. Is your skin breaking out in acne? It is likely that you are stressed out, or your hormones are out of whack. Those dark circles under your eyes? Well, they are good indicators that you are missing out on your much-needed sleep.

Fortunately, there are steps that you can take to help you maintain good-looking skin on a daily basis.

Have some citrus fruits

Detoxing your liver and your kidneys can contribute to having beautiful skin, and if you think that you’ll need all these special diets to cleanse them, snacking on citrus fruits will suffice. The vitamin C that they contain not only removes the toxins that have build up in your liver and kidneys, but it also keeps wrinkles at bay.

Wear sunscreen

Sunscreen is not just for summer, but rather should be part of your daily skin care routine. Sunscreen with high SPF can protect your skin against UVA and UVB rays that are known to damage skin cells when you are exposed to them for hours. Make sure that you apply a decent amount of sunscreen whenever you leave the house.

Go natural

Women are seeing the value of going all natural with their skin care as well as their looks that you might want to do the same thing too. You see, most make up and skin care products that we have been using for some time contain chemicals that can have an impact on our skin in the long run. By removing these items from our shelves, and turning to those that have fewer ingredients, you are saving your skin from dryness and irritation in the long run.

Have more water

Our body needs water for the organs to function, true, but did you know that your skin need it to stay soft, smooth, and supple? The skin is made up of 64% water, and if you are missing out on your much-needed drink, it becomes dry, flaky, and wrinkly too which is not exactly a good sight to see. Start with 8 glasses of water if you can manage, or at least aim for this amount until you get used to it.

Cut the sugar

Sugar may give you momentary happiness especially when you are stressed out, but its effects on your skin is horrible. Aside from triggering inflammation, your skin will be more at risk from wrinkles as well as sagging skin. What’s more, there is a huge chance that acne and rosacea will worsen because of it too. But if you think that this is limited to your use of table sugar, we are also referring to the sugar that comes from certain types of carbs which are converted into glucose. Too much can be a bad thing.

Rest

Do not dismiss the effects of getting a good night’s rest on your skin. Keep in mind that it is at this point when your body is repairing itself. Make it a point to get enough sleep every day, to prevent dark circles forming under your eyes, acne breaking out on your skin, and more. Sleeping at least 8 hours of day will leave you with high energy levels and a glowing skin.

Drink tea

Drinking white or green tea will not only help with your hydration, but also in protecting your skin against aging because of the antioxidants that they contain.
