How to Improve Strength to Lift More Weights

Must read

You’re probably wishing that you have the strength to lift more weights whenever you hit the gym but just like with any sports, or fitness routine that you are doing, you will need to start at the bottom and gradually work your way up. Of course, if you are not a patient person, you will certainly be looking for a quick way to gain strength.

The good news is that there are indeed steps that you can take to help you increase the amount of weights you are lifting and they involve hard work on your part. Here are some steps that you should do if you want to gain more strength for your weightlifting needs.

  1. Go for heavier weights. Since your goal is to lift more weights, it is only logical that you need to lift heavier weights. If you’re used to lifting around 5 pounds of dumbbell when you exercise, try lifting 10 pound dumbbells instead. Gradually increase the weight that you are lifting as long as you are comfortable with the lift and that you are not sacrificing form.
  2. Reduce repetitions. For those who want to boost your figures when lifting, it is important that you reduce the number of repetitions that you do. If you do several sets of 10 to 15 reps each, you will exhaust yourself to the point that you aren’t giving your maximum effort to the lift. This is counterproductive to what you are trying to achieve when you want to lift more weights in the long run.
  3. Mix up your routines. If you are trying to improve your deadlifts then do more deadlifts. However, there will come a time where you will hit your plateau and when this happens, do another type of workout such as split squats or any unilateral movement to develop your secondary muscles. Afterwards, you can go back to your regular fitness routine.
  4. Always follow proper form. Just because you want to speed up your strength gain, you will no longer pay attention to your form. This kind of thinking will actually leave you open to injuries not to mention, inhibit your performance because you are not giving your maximum power to the lift. If you want to lift better, you will have to lift explosively or as quickly as you can before going back to your first position slowly or in a controlled manner. This will give you the most benefit from your lifts which in turn can help you lift more just like what your goal is.

Of course, there are some considerations that you need to take into account such as wearing and tearing of muscles which can happen if you’re lifting more weights. It is important that you pay attention to what your body is saying so you won’t increase your risk of suffering from injuries. Give your body time to heal because your muscles will experience micro tears which means you need ample time to rest up.
