Itchy skin may be triggered by different factors such as allergies, imbalance in your pH levels, eczema, and even insect bites just to name a few. Even dry skin is a factor in having an itchy skin which can be quite uncomfortable to say the least, especially with all the scratching that you are doing. Although having itchy skin is not that dangerous to your health, when you start scratching, your skin can break and bleed, leaving you more prone to the presence of bacteria which can lead to more health issues.

That being said, there are several tips on how you can deal with itchy skin and fast. Here are a few suggestions that you can try:

Apple cider vinegar

Treating itchy skin caused by psoriasis, dandruff, stings, or even chickenpox is possible with the help of apple cider vinegar. What’s great about raw apple cider vinegar is that it contains anti-fungal, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the swelling and irritation on your skin. Mix equal parts of water and apple cider vinegar and apply on the affected skin twice a day.

Leaf gels

Another possible solution to itchy skin is applying leaf gels on the affected area. Aloe vera and menthol work wonders as they help soothe the irritation. The aloe vera gel can be applied directly on the irritated skin, while the menthol needs to be diluted first.

Antihistamines

There are instances when itchy skin is triggered by an allergic reaction which can be reduced by taking antihistamines. However, if you are taking oral antihistamines, better take it before bed time as drowsiness is its likely side effect. You can also purchase topical antihistamines which can be applied directly on the affected skin.

Basil

If you are fond of using herbs when cooking, then you will be happy to know that basil is a useful treatment when it comes to fighting of the itching on your skin. If you are going to take a closer look at basil, you will learn that it contains three types of anesthetics and these are eugenol, camphor, and thymol which help numb the area where the irritation and inflammation occurs. When applied topically, it may help reduce the itching, plus prevent bacteria from forming too. For those who have fresh basil, simply crush a few leaves then apply on the itchy parts of your skin.

Baking soda

Another possible treatment for itchy skin that you can find in your kitchen cabinet is baking soda. This is typically used in baking, but you may be surprised to find that it has other uses too and one of them is to help treat your itchy skin. What makes baking soda useful when it comes to relieving your itchy skin is that it comes with anti-inflammatory properties and alkaline composition which can help neutralize any acids that are present on your skin. If you are dealing with dandruff, combine one part baking soda with three parts water then rinse your hair with it. Massage your scalp to get the mixture in thoroughly, then leave it on for 3 minutes. Rinse it off afterwards with lukewarm water.

Cold pack

This is probably one of the easiest solutions that you can find with regards to itchy skin. Grab a few ice cubes, wrap them in a clean cloth, and place on the affected skin. The cold temperature acts as a numbing agent which helps in reducing the itching. Another plus to this solution is that it can also help reduce the swelling especially when you have been bitten.
