Dry skin is always a challenge as there are many factors that can contribute to it such as the weather, constant exposure to hot or cold temperatures when taking a bath, not using moisturizer, and even genetics can play a part. When your skin is way too dry, there is a risk of ending up with cracked and peeling skin which can be irritating and inflamed. Not only that, it can be a source of discomfort too especially when it starts to bleed. With that being said, it is important that we give our skin the care it needs in order to retain moisture as much as possible. Fortunately, you can start by using some essential oils to nourish your dry and inflamed skin. Here are some essential oils that you can use.

Frankincense

This essential oil is well known for its ability to protect your skin cells because of its astringent properties. It is capable of reducing scars on the skin that are left behind by acne breakouts, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and even tighten your skin so that your enlarged pores will become smaller. To make your own serum, simply add 6 drops of this essential oil to an unscented oil than apply on dry areas on your skin. On the other hand, if you want to use it as a cream, mix 5 drops each of lavender and frankincense oil with 1/5 tablespoons of coconut oil, and half a teaspoon of olive oil. Combine them all in a small glass jar and use as needed.

Geranium

You should also use geranium essential oil to help regulate your hormones so that you will have better complexion and better skin tone. Massaging this oil on your skin can enhance circulation plus it reduces inflammation too. This is also useful for fighting off wrinkles. Add two drops of this oil on your facial moisturizer will not only make your skin feel soft and smooth but it will also give it a nice scent to it.

Myrrh

Myrrh will always be associated with the Three Kings but did you know that it is useful in treating dry skin? This ingredient is often added in many skincare lotions not only because it smells great but it is also effective in moisturizing your skin. The Egyptians actually used myrrh to keep their skin soft and smooth.

Helichrysum

What other essential oils should you be adding to your beauty routine to fight off dry skin? Well, helichrysum fits the bill. This particular essential oil is somewhat similar to that of chamomile since it is gentle on even the most sensitive skin. You can use it to fight off bacteria as well as skin irritations like rashes. Adding this essential oil to your routine not only helps treat dry skin, but it can also help you deal with shaving irritation, redness, blemishes, and rashes even.

Sandalwood

If you are looking for an essential oil that is an all-out skin treatment, then you can bet that sandalwood is the oil that you are looking for. There are many benefits associated with sandalwood such good skin softener, relieves itching, evens out complexion, and fights aging too. Add to this the fact that this oil can make your dry skin feel soft and smooth and you know that you got to have one of these in your beauty kit. 

These essential oils can help bring back the natural smoothness and texture of your skin so that you won’t end up with dry, cracked, and peeling skin. It is always a good idea to mix these oils with a carrier oil before using on your skin to avoid side effects especially when you have sensitive skin.
