Gingivitis is a common gum problem that affects a lot of people. It is simply a mild infection of the gums which most people are not really aware that they have it. Among the symptoms of gingivitis include redness, irritation, puffiness, and even swelling of the gums. It can also be accompanied by receding gums, bad breath, tender gums, and even bleeding when flossing or when brushing. Most of the time, poor oral hygiene is the culprit behind this but there are other factors like smoking, age, and certain types of medications that can trigger this problem as well.

The good news is that you can treat gingivitis using natural remedies to help alleviate the symptoms. As a matter of fact, here are a few options to consider.

  • Turmeric. One natural remedy that you can try to relieve gingivitis is turmeric. This is due to the fact that turmeric has curcumin which contains antioxidant as well as anti-inflammatory properties. The presence of curcumin can reduce the pain, inflammation, plaque buildup, and swelling in the gums and it has the ability to get rid of bacteria too. You should make a paste by combinting a teaspoon of turmeric power and half a teaspoon each of mustard oil and salt. Apply this paste on your teeth as well as gums then massage twice in a day.
  • Baking soda. Baking soda is also another option to consider when it comes to alleviating gingivitis because it has the ability to eliminate microorganisms in your mouth. You can also use it to polish the enamel of your teeth which can help banish the bad smell too. All that you have to do is to mix some baking soda with drinking water and then apply on your gumline. Brush your teeth afterwards.
  • Aloe vera. This plant can provide you with numerous health benefits from making your hair grow stronger and thicker to treating cuts and burns. But did you know that you can also use this plant to treat gingivitis? This is due to the fact that aloe vera has antifungal and antibacterial properties which prove to be quite the powerhouse when it comes to combating gingivitis. Get an aloe vera leaf to get the pulp and rub it directly on the gums that are affected by gingivitis. Leave it on for about 10 minutes then gargle afterwards with cold water. You should repeat this several times until the swelling goes down.
  • Sage. Another natural remedy for gingivitis is sage. This herb has antibacterial properties that can help remove the bacteria growing in your teeth and gums. Add a tablespoon of sage natural powder to a cup of boiling powder and cook for a few minutes. Put a bit of salt then put the solution in a glass bottle. Use this after brushing your teeth to reduce the pain and inflammation.
