Upset that your scalp seems oily all the time? Worry not because there are plenty of all-natural remedies for it. Some of the most effective solutions for an oily scalp are Ayurvedic ones. Below you will learn how you can deal with a scalp that’s greasier than French fries without the use of pricey shampoos and creams that contain harsh ingredients.

For a beauty-conscious woman, having an oily scalp is a no-no because it can make the hair look limp and lifeless. But did you know that it’s also something that can cause dandruff?

Sebum, which is an oily substance produced by the sebaceous glands, is essential for the protection and lubrication of the skin. The scalp also produces it in order to safeguard itself from damage, as well as to shield the hair strands from dryness and breakage. In optimal amounts, sebum is undeniably your best friend.

Too much of it, however, can be detrimental not only for your appearance but even your scalp health. According to experts, an oily scalp can cause a type of fungus to thrive, causing an infection. This infection can lead to the accelerated shedding of the skin. Sounds familiar? Yes, it’s dandruff!

Causes of an oily scalp come aplenty. Stress and hormonal imbalance are some of the most common ones — you may notice that your scalp and hair seem a lot oilier on days that you are very busy or before or during your period.

Are you aware that frequent shampooing and hairstyling can also lead to excess oiliness of the scalp? When the scalp ends up excessively dry or irritated, it tries to protect itself as well as your hair by producing more sebum. But if it ends up churning out more sebum than necessary, then all sorts of problems can show up.

If you are annoyed that your scalp is oilier than necessary, you may rely on some Ayurvedic remedies for it. The following are some of those that you may give a try to see improvements:

Apple Cider Vinegar

Once you’re through lathering your shampoo, rinse it off thoroughly with water. However, your last rinse should be a mixture of equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and lukewarm water. Wring out excess before towel drying your mane. Worry not because your hair won’t smell like apple cider vinegar once it’s completely dry.

Black Tea

What makes black tea work effectively for controlling oiliness of the scalp is it has astringent properties — it is capable of regulating the action of the sebaceous glands in the scalp.

To employ black tea, simply allow 2 to 3 bags of it to brew in a cup of hot water. Wait for several minutes until the tea is already lukewarm. Use it as a final rinse after having your hair shampooed. Unfortunately, those who have light-colored tresses may notice slight darkening of their hair, but it’s only temporary.

Lemon Juice

You may also count on lemon juice if you have a scalp that’s too oily. However, this Ayurvedic solution can lighten your hair a bit, which can be a good thing if you don’t mind getting some highlights!

What you need to do is simply dilute freshly-squeezed lemon juice with equal amounts of water, and then massage the mixture onto your scalp. Leave it there for about 5 minutes before shampooing. Ayurveda experts say that you should do this home remedy for oily scalp no more than twice a week.
