We are all guilty of being hooked on our gadgets from the moment that we wake up until we go to bed. This is not surprising given that technology made it possible for us to stay connected whenever and wherever we are. But as with any other things in our lives, too much of it can be bad for our health. It’s great that we can chat with anyone, get emails from work even while we are at home, and so on, but if you’ve been constantly bombarded by never-ending emails and notifications even during the weekend, it does tend to create a stressful environment that can affect your health. If you are feeling overwhelmed with your use of technology, it’s high time that you take a step back and unplug yourself to help you recover and recuperate. This may sound like a tall order especially when you are addicted to your gadgets, but trust us, it will do you a world of good if you just unplug from time to time. Don’t know how? Here are a few steps for you to try.

Delete addictive apps

Aside from smartphones letting us access our social media accounts all the time, it also opens the doors to numerous addictive apps, from Facebook to Temple Run, and everything in between that are taking up most of our time. You’ve probably spent more than half an hour checking your social media or playing when you have a lot of things to do. If you know that you are hooked to a particular app, the best thing to do is to delete it from your smartphone. Not only will this get rid of your addiction, but you’ll also have more time to do the more important tasks too.

Limit your tech usage

This is going to be tougher than you think as we all want to stay connected as much as possible. Since you want to unplug from technology, you can start slowly and that is by limiting your tech usage. The first thing to do is to figure out how often you use your gadget on a daily basis. Now try not to use your gadget for 30 minutes. Got it? Now, make it 45 minutes, and so on. Weaning yourself from the use of technology does have its perks which you are sure to find out soon enough.

Change your email settings

If you don’t want to be bombarded with notifications that you have a new email every once in a while, change your email settings so that the priority ones will get through. And if you plan on going on a vacation, set up an automatic response, including the date when you will be back as well as emergency numbers if someone needs to get hold of you immediately.

Turn it off

Since most of us are glued to our smartphones whenever we are out and about, we tend to miss out on a lot of things. It’s time for you to change things and one of them is to look at the world using your eyes. Yes, that’s right. Don’t use your smartphone to capture moments but rather your eyes so that they will be imprinted in your memory. Turn off your smartphone as you walk around and you’ll be surprised at what you’ve been missing.
