Pink eye, which is also referred to as conjunctivitis, is an eye infection that includes swelling, redness, tearing, itching, and the appearance of white drainage in the eyes. This condition can be difficult to deal with, which is why it pays to know some natural remedies to help alleviate the pain and itching. Here are a few that you may want to use.

Green tea

The bioflavonoids that are present in this drink can help alleviate the inflammation and irritation that may have been triggered by pink eye while combating viral and bacterial infections too. To use this remedy, you should cool a green tea bag that was dipped in boiled water then place on the infected eye. You can also prepare a cup of this drink, soak your washcloth in it, then place on your eyes to work as a warm compress.

Apple cider vinegar

Another remedy that can be used to help reduce pink eye is apple cider vinegar. You will need to diffuse this acetic solution in warm, sterilized water first before cleaning your eyelids with it. The vinegar is an effective disinfectant which can help reduce the effects of pink eye.

Neem oil

Neem oil is effective in alleviating irritation on the skin because of its soothing properties. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of this oil can reduce the symptoms of pink eye. To use this treatment, wipe some of this oil around the eyelid and the eye before bedtime. This helps provide relief to the eyes.

Turmeric

What else can you use to treat your pink eye? Well, turmeric can be useful for your pink eye because it helps reduce inflammation. It comes with antibacterial and healing properties can soothe the infection in the eyes. Just boil some water then add about 2 tbsp. of turmeric powder. Soak a clean washcloth or cotton pad and place over the infected for about 10 to 15 minutes. This will help reduce the swelling and irritation.
