Understanding the Fatty Liver Diet

Must read

The liver is quite remarkable in the sense that it is capable of restoring itself when it gets damaged. Unfortunately, with the constant work that we are putting it through, sometimes it takes a while before the liver recovers. Add to this the fact that there is the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which is one of the leading causes of liver problems, and you know you will need to take steps to protect your liver from this disease. This is where the fatty liver diet comes in.

What is the Fatty Liver Diet?

The fatty liver diet focuses more on minimizing your calorie intake by consuming more foods that are high in fiber, complex carbohydrates, protein, and rich in vitamins and minerals too. It should be more on natural foods rather than the processed ones because the latter is one of the causes of liver problems in the long run. You should also go for foods that can help reduce inflammation so that it will be easier for your body to repair itself.

The good news is that there are several types of diet that can fall under this category such as the Mediterranean diet which focuses mostly on eating whole and fresh foods rather than those that are high in sugar, salt, and carbohydrate content. Depending on the type of diet that you are going to follow, there are some foods that you should include to help you protect and repair your liver.

Coffee

It appears that the morning coffee that you have often can actually be good for your liver. Yes, we often have coffee to perk us up in the morning but there is more to this caffeine-rich beverage than meets the eye. You see, coffee can also be effective in reducing your cholesterol levels which lowers your risk from hypertension. This is because coffee contains chlorogenic acid which is a known antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties too. Drinking coffee may help protect you from non-alcoholic fatty liver disease too.
