Most men commit common shaving mistakes, leaving results that don’t meet their standards. This is because a razor and shaving cream can only get you so far. You have to know the steps to have that perfect, clean, shaven looks.

Here are the steps to have that smooth and clean look:

1. Don’t Dry Your Face

Soak your face in hot water for a few seconds before you get out of the shower. Towel dry your body and head, but keep your face wet. Doing this will keep your stubble soft, until you can apply the shaving gel that will help in maintaining the softness.

2. Apply shaving gel

Shaving gel reduces the friction between your skin and the blade. It also protects your skin and increases the comfort of shaving.

For a smooth shave, apply a thick coat of gel into your face and gently massage to your skin.

3. Shave

Draw the razor below the side-burn areas first, then begin shaving on either side of your face. These areas are easier to shave since they are relatively flat surfaces. Move on to your upper lip, and then those other difficult areas, such as around your ears and chin. By doing this difficult areas last, you’re giving the shaving gel ample time to work its softening effect.

Avoid hacking away at troublesome areas. Also use gentle and light strokes.

4. The Post Shave

Rinse off with cold water to close the pores. Then, apply a post-shave gel and aftershave to moisturize and smooth your skin. Moisturizing will help to refresh and soothe your skin, while the aftershave will help reduce any skin irritation.
