Get Rid of Carpet Stains with these Home Remedies

Must read

Don’t you just hate it when you have friends over for “netflix and chill” only to find out that someone accidentally spilled their drink on your carpet? Or how about this: you asked some of your relatives to come over for barbecue and then one of your cousins dropped his chewing gum on the floor covering. We can’t keep these things from happening and the only way to deal with these annoying situations is by finding damage-free ways to remove the stain from these space-fillers. Of course using a strong detergent is out of the question because 1) it doesn’t really get the job done and 2) you only end up damaging the carpet.

Home Remedy # 1: Ice Cubes

Ice cubes keep your drinks cold and your carpets stain-free. Use ice cubes and that chewing gum will be removed instantly.

Here’s how:

  • Put the ice cubes in a plastic bag.
  • Put the plastic bag over the chewing gum.
  • Once the chewing gum hardens, use a butter knife to scrape it off from the carpet.
  • Use a dry cleaning fluid after.

Home Remedy # 2: Baking Soda

One of the common ingredients used in removing urine and vomit stains from the carpet is baking soda. It deodorizes, cleans, and sanitizes messy carpet stains.

Here’s how:

  •  Sprinkle some baking soda while the stains are still “fresh”.
  • Wipe the area with a paper towel until the stains are removed.

Home Remedy #3: Beer

Hold up before you chug down the alcohol! Leave some just in case you need to use it as a stain remover. Not a lot of people know this but beer is effective in removing yellow oily stains from tea and coffee.

Here’s how:

  • Pour a small amount of beer on the stain and watch it disappear.
  • Keep repeating the process until the stains are no longer visible.

Home Remedy #4: Vinegar

Vinegar is a staple in the kitchen and is present in almost every household remedy. Mixing it with baking soda creates a natural solution that can get rid of stubborn stains. Here’s how:

  • Pour a small amount of vinegar on the stain.
  • Sprinkle some baking soda.
  • Once the baking soda hits the vinegar, you’ll see some bubbles. This indicates that there’s a chemical reaction between the two ingredients.
  • Keep repeating the process until the stains are no longer visible.

You can also use vinegar to remove grease stains. Just pour a small amount of white vinegar on an unused toothbrush or soft brush. Gently scrub on the stain and wait for it to dry. Keep scrubbing until you can no longer see the stains.

Home Remedy # 5: Shaving Cream

Juice stains are quite common, especially when you have family and friends over. One way to remove juice stains on the carpet is by using shaving cream.

Here’s how:

  •  Put some shaving cream on the stained area.
  • Soak a sponge or cloth in warm water.
  •  Wipe the sponge on the shaving cream until the stain disappears. You can also use shaving cream to remove greasy and oily stains.

Home Remedy # 6: Corn Starch

Another common stain that is usually found on carpets is ink. This usually happens when we drop our pen or our bottle of ink while writing or painting.

Here’s how:

  • Mix one tablespoon of corn starch and some water until it forms a thick paste.
  • Apply the corn starch paste on the ink stain.
  •  Let the paste dry for a couple of minutes.
  • Once dry, remove the paste slowly and voila! No more ink stain! You can also use corn starch to soak up and remove greasy and oily stains.

Home Remedy # 7: Tooth Brush

The tooth brush has bristles that are soft and tender, that’s why it’s perfect for removing hard to remove stains.

Here’s how:

  • Use an old toothbrush with soft bristles.
  • Apply some stain removing agent on the bristles.
  • Gently scrub on the stains until they disappear.

Home Remedy # 8: Ammonia

Ammonia, or NH4, contains chemical properties that can help remove stains from furniture, fabrics, and carpets.

Here’s how:

  • Mix two liters of warm water and half a cup of ammonia. Stir thoroughly
  •  Place the stained part of the carpet or fabric in the mixture.
  • Let it dry for a couple of minutes. Most of the ingredients for the remedies we mentioned above can be found in your kitchen.

-These products have been proven to remove different types of tough stains. It’s important to be cautious when brushing the stains to keep from damaging the carpet. Of course, as always, use the ingredients in moderation. Next time you discover stains on your furniture, clothes, or carpet, you know what to do! Run to the nearest convenience store to grab a bottle of beer, look for your old tooth brush, or get some ice cubes from the freezer. Good luck!
