Turmeric is derived from the root of curcuma longa plant. This plant is native in South Asia and have been used in multiple Indian cuisine. The turmeric plant is a part of the ginger family. The powder of turmeric is in deep orange, yellow hue and particularly gives off an earthy, bitter and slightly peppery taste. It tends to smell strong due to its cur cumin substance. Besides being used in food, it may be used in dyeing clothes and adding colors to condiments.

Turmeric is very popular in India. It is used to add taste and vibrancy to food and a part in traditional rituals. It is commonly seen in Indian wedding ceremonies. The ceremony called “haldi” is performed during weddings. A paste made out of turmeric is applied on the groom and bride’s body as a traditional way to prepare them for marriage. Stretch Mark Treatment

Turmeric contains nutritional and mineral contents that can help reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Create a natural stretch mark cream by mixing equal parts gram flour and turmeric to a cup of yogurt or milk. Use this mixture on the affected area and massage it for five to ten minutes and rinse it with cold water.

Soothe Burn

Turmeric can be a great in relieving burns. The antiseptic property of turmeric can help relieve pain from the burn and speed up healing. Mix equal parts Aloe Vera and turmeric to prevent scarring from the burn.

Reduce Pigmentation and Skin Tanning

Mix equal parts lemon juice and turmeric powder together and use a clean brush to apply it on the skin. Gently massage the mixture on the skin with the brush and continue this for 20 to 30 minutes then rinse with plain water. The lightening properties of turmeric can reduce the appearance of pigmentation and skin tanning.

Reduce Facial Hair

Turmeric can help reduce hair growth and stop it from growing. Mix together chickpea and turmeric to create a paste-like mixture. Use this on the selected area and massage it for about ten minutes. Shave the area beforehand to allow the mixture to seep in through the skin. Perform this for a month to have better results.

Acne Treatment

The antibacterial and antiseptic properties of turmeric can help fight off acne breakouts and pimples on the skin. The anti-inflammatory contents of turmeric can reduce the redness of the blemish and can help reduce the production of oil on the skin. Mix turmeric powder, lemon juice and sandalwood powder together to create a paste. Use this on your face and leave it for ten minutes. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.
