6 Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil

Must read

Coconut oil is back to setting a trend in many health and wellness circles as its benefits are, once again, being promoted by those who have experienced them first hand. Coconut can be considered as a wonder plant as every part of it can be used. But what is it about coconut oil that many are going gaga over it?

It appears that coconut oil is quite popular in the beauty industry because of its numerous abilities such as clearing up the skin, excellent makeup remover, and even banish body odor. What else can this magic ingredient do? Here are 6 more beauty benefits that you can reap from using coconut oil.

6 Beauty Benefits of Coconut Oil

Makeup remover.

There are some types of makeup that are just too stubborn to remove but even the toughest waterproof mascara can give way to the power of coconut oil as makeup remover. There are two ways in which you can use coconut oil as a makeup remover. First, you can use it as an oil cleanser where you dip a cotton ball in coconut oil then wipe the makeup off. Second, you can soak a cotton pad in coconut oil then let it sit on your skin for a few minutes before wiping your makeup off.

Hair treatment.

Another beauty benefit that you can get from coconut oil is that it can be used as a hair treatment. Our hair can become wild and unruly when we don’t care for it too much so if you are battling frizzy or dry hair, you should use some coconut oil on it. Start by applying a small amount of coconut oil on the palm of your hand and rub it against the other hand to help warm it up for a few seconds. Apply afterwards on your hair from the roots to the ends. You can leave it on longer if you like. Just wrap your hair in a towel to prevent excess oil from falling. Wash your hair afterwards with a gentle shampoo.

Body oil.

Our skin produces oil naturally but sometimes, when the temperature starts to dry, our skin becomes dry and dull. Instead of slathering those heavy lotions on your body, keep a bottle of coconut oil on hand and apply after you take a bath or shower. Pat your skin dry afterwards. What’s great about coconut oil is that it won’t leave that greasy residue plus, it contains its own SPF which gives you some protection against the harsh rays of the sun.

Shaving balm.

Shaving our legs or under the arms can leave our skin dry and rough. But instead of spending a lot of money on expensive shaving creams, why not use coconut oil instead? Conventional shaving creams may not give you the smooth skin you’ve always wanted after shaving but not with coconut oil. Just apply some coconut oil on areas that you want to shave and let the razor glide. You will notice the end result is considerably better plus your skin gets moisturized in the process too.

Whitening toothpaste.

Coffee stains on your teeth can prevent you from flashing that smile of yours but not when you can make your own whitening toothpaste with just two ingredients. All that you have to do is to mix some coconut oil with baking powder until you create a paste and use it as you would your ordinary toothpaste. The result will definitely turn heads when you flash that smile of yours.

Body scrub.

Are you wondering why body scrubs are a big hit with many women? It’s because the scrubs can remove the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin thus encouraging new skin to appear. Although you can get body scrubs from your local grocery, making your own is a cheaper, if not, safer method of scrubbing your body clean. You will just need to heat a small amount of coconut oil in a small pan then set aside to cool. Add some brown sugar into it then apply on your body. Spread it evenly by massaging the oil in a circular motion against your skin. The brown sugar will be able to remove dead skin cells while the coconut oil will help moisturize your skin.
