Foods to Eat for a Summer Ready Skin

Must read

We all want to have gorgeous looking skin for the summer but with the constant exposure to the sun, drinking beer and cocktails, as well as eating ice cream to cool you down, you’ll find that your skin is looking blotchy, dry, and breaking out into acne. Although there is nothing wrong with enjoying your summer treats, it is important that you pay attention to your skin’s condition if you want it to remain smooth and naturally glowing. Simply put, you will need to look for foods that contain anti-inflammatory as well as antioxidant properties to maintain your beautiful looking skin.

So which foods should you be incorporating into your daily diet? Here are some to get you started.

Peppers. Peppers are just perfect for maintaining that youthful glow of yours especially when they are one of the best sources of vitamin C. Compared to garlic, eating peppers won’t leave your breath stinky, but it will leave that sweet taste in your mouth that has a little bit of kick in it. The vitamin C present in this vegetable can help enhance your immune system which in turn can combat various diseases that may cause your skin to become dull. Another plus to eating peppers is that it will improve collagen production so your skin won’t become dry and prone to breakouts too.

Cantaloupe. If you are aiming for a natural tan during the summer, eating cantaloupes is highly recommended. One reason behind this is that cantaloupes contain beta-carotenes which can cause your skin to increase in pigmentation thus giving you that nice tan. Just make sure that you don’t go overboard with your cantaloupe consumption as too much beta-carotene can cause hyperpigmentation.

Basil. This common garden herb is not just for adding that extra kick to your salads, soups, and even DIY pizza because the leaves of this plant are also good for your skin especially during the summer. This is due to the fact that basil leaves contain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which are what your skin needs when it comes to keeping it free from blemishes or signs of aging even. You can use fresh basil or dried, whichever you prefer, and will still get the same results.

Kale. Another type of food that will give you that summer-ready skin is kale. This leafy green is considered as a superfood because it is packed with a decent amount of vitamins A, C, and K. Vitamin A is not just about repairing your dry skin but it is also known to treat damaged skin. The vitamin C, on the other hand, provides protection against the sun, while vitamin K can reduce skin discoloration, particularly under your eyes.

Spinach. Summer is the perfect time to get more spinach in your belly as it is high in antioxidants that can actually protect you against the sun’s rays. Among the antioxidants that you can get from spinach include beta-carotene, vitamins C and E, and folate. Spinach will help you maintain healthy looking skin even when you spend some time outdoors.

Berries. If you find berries in the store, do stock your fridge with them as they are good for the skin. Think blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries just to name a few. You can eat them as is, make a smoothie out of them, or even add them to your salads. The antioxidants that they contain not only protect your skin against UV damage but they will also slow down signs of aging. Have a cup or two of berries per day and give your skin the protection it needs.
