Best DIY Hair Protection Recipes for the Summer

Must read

Most of us wear more sunscreen when the sun is out during the summer to protect the skin against the UV rays being emitted by the sun. This is actually a habit that you need to start practicing especially when you spend most of your time outdoors. But aside from your skin, you should also consider providing some form of protection for your hair as the heat can make your scalp and hair dry, brittle, and prone to breakage if you don’t care for it at all. Regardless of whether you will be heading to the beach or just hang out in the pool with your family and friends, don’t forget to use these hair protection recipes to keep your hair in good condition even when exposed so salt, sun, and chlorine.

Lemon and chamomile. The sun can make your highlights disappear, leaving your hair looking worse for wear. But why not harness the sun’s rays instead? The lemon and chamomile spray can help lighten your hair naturally especially when you’re out under the sun all the time. You will need 2 cups of water, 2 teaspoons of almond oil, the juice from 2 lemons, and 10 drops of chamomile essential oil. Just combine all the ingredients in a bottle and mix thoroughly. Just spray the solution on your hair before stepping outside your home. Take note, however, to go easy on this spray as the acidic nature of lemon can make your hair brittle and dry when used frequently.

Shea butter and avocado oil. If your hair has already been damaged with the use of heating tools, and poor haircare, you will need to use shea butter to repair your scalp and hair strands especially when you will be spending time outdoors. Shea butter is perfect for hair repair because it contains antioxidants, UV ray protection, essential fatty acids, as well as vitamins A, D, and E just to name a few. Combine this with avocado oil, which is known for its vitamin E content, and you now have a hair protection serum that will fix your hair in no time. You will need half a cup of shea butter, 10 drops of your choice of essential oil, and 2 tablespoons of avocado oil. Mix the shea butter and avocado oil in a mixer and mix for 10 to 15 minutes or until the ingredients are fluffy. Add your choice of essential oil then mix for another 10 seconds. Scoop the mixture and place it in a jar. Use this while your hair is damp and before you use heating tools.
