Isn’t it annoying that your elbows and knees are darker than the rest of your skin? This is because these areas tend to have more folds than the rest of the body plus they don’t have much oil glands in these parts hence they tend to dry up faster compared to the rest of our skin. This is why we end up with uneven skin tone which can be embarrassing especially when we’re wearing short sleeved tops and shorts or skirts. Luckily, you can solve this problem with a few home remedies. Here are some that are worth giving a shot.

Potatoes have the ability to lighten one’s skin tone hence they are often used to clear up dark spots in our body. Start by boiling some potatoes then mashing them. Combine this with some plain yogurt then apply on your elbows and knees and leave it on for half an hour. Wash it off afterwards.

Coconut oil

Another home remedy that can lighten your dark elbows and knees is coconut oil. It contains vitamin E that can help alleviate the dark portions of your skin. It is also good for hydrating these areas of your body to prevent dryness. You should apply coconut oil on the affected areas every time you finish taking a shower or bath. Massage gently for 1 to 2minutes. You can reapply the oil as many times as you want within the day.

You should also try almonds to banish the dark areas around your elbows and knees since these nuts have the ability to nourish the skin. Aside from moisturizing your skin, almonds also contain nutrients that can make your skin healthy and glowing. For this remedy, simply mix 1 to 2 teaspoons of powdered almonds with yogurt until you create a paste. Apply the mixture on your elbows and knees and leave it on for a few minutes. Take a cold shower or bath afterwards.

Not only does this ingredient gently exfoliates your skin but it can also reduce hyper-pigmentation that tends to form around the knees and elbows. For this remedy, combine a tablespoon each of milk and baking soda. Apply the mixture on the elbows and knees and rub in a circular motion for 2 to3 minutes. Wash it off afterwards with lukewarm water and then pat dry. You should repeat this daily until you achieve your desired results.

Don’t forget that cucumber is also useful when it comes to eliminating dark areas in your body as it has an amazing bleaching property. By removing any impurities on the skin, you will be able to deliver proper moisture to areas that tend to dry up fast just like in the case of your elbows and knees. Simply slice some cucumber and apply them on your dark elbows and knees. Leave them on for 10 to 15 minutes then wash it off afterwards. You can even mix cucumber juice with turmeric powder and lemon juice for better results if you like.
