Dry skin can happen to anyone. This condition occurs when the skin is not able to retain enough moisture, or when there is not enough sebum being produced. There are many factors that can contribute to dryness such as environmental factors or because of your genetics. Either way, you need to take steps to correct this as having dry skin can be quite uncomfortable when left for long.

Fortunately, dealing with dry skin doesn’t have to be that hard to do especially when there are plenty of moisturizing tips for you to try out. Here are a few that you should consider:

Shorten your shower time

As much as you would like to enjoy more time taking a shower, if you have dry skin, it will only worsen your condition. The best thing for you to do is to shorten your shower time and use warm water instead of the hot water that you are used to. You should use gentle or mild soap on your skin too as this will help soothe your dry skin.

Avoid anti-aging products

When you have dry skin, the last thing you want to use on it is a skin care product that contains AHAs or retinoids as they can be too irritating on your already sensitive skin. Go for skin care products that are gentler or try oils like olive and almond oil to nourish your skin.

Dry skin may leave your skin cracked and peeling, which is why you should exfoliate your skin regularly. Exfoliating helps get rid of the dead skin that may be lingering on the surface of our skin, and that cracked and peeling skin of yours may also be removed with some gentle scrub. There are scrubs that are sold in stores today, but you can make your own if you wish.

Practice proper after shower routine

Another tip that you should consider when it comes to dry skin is to follow a proper after-shower skin care routine. This includes patting your skin dry rather than rubbing it as the latter may irritate your already dry skin. What’s more, once you step out of the shower, you will need to apply moisturizer to help seal in the moisture on your skin. Just remember that your dry skin needs more help when it comes to retaining moisture.

Your lips matter

If you think that it’s just your face or the rest of your body feels cracked and peeling, you might want to pay attention to your lips too. The skin on our lips need nourishment too, hence it is a good idea to give it some TLC as well. start with exfoliating your lips with a lip scrub then apply a nourishing lip balm after. The lip balm must be applied regularly, or you can use a small amount of almond, coconut, or olive oil overnight to help keep your lips soft, smooth, and healthy.

Don’t forget your sunscreen

Having dry skin means that you are more prone to wrinkles as well as other signs of aging which means that you don’t want to add more to the problem by exposing yourself to the sun without adequate protection. If you are going outside to run errands, it is always a good idea to wear sunscreen with high SPF to help give your skin protection against UVA and UVB rays. Talk to your dermatologist on what sunscreen is appropriate for your skin type.
