How to Make Your Own Cosmetics

Must read

Women just can’t get enough of wearing makeup as the cosmetic industry keeps on producing impressive makeup products that can truly enhance one’s look. However, the chemicals that are combined with these beauty products tend to be harsh on the skin especially when used constantly. But the idea of stepping outside your home without wearing any makeup doesn’t sit well with many women. How then will you be able to protect your skin while still looking great? One way to do so is to make your own cosmetics using ingredients that are not dangerous to your skin or your health even.

Sounds interesting? Here are some recipes for you to try.

Mascara. You will need 4 teaspoons of aloe vera gel, vitamin E oil, 2 teaspoons of coconut oil, half a teaspoon of bees wax, and ¼ to ½ teaspoon of activated charcoal. In a small glass bowl or mason jar, add the aloe vera gel, vitamin E oil, beeswax, and coconut oil. Pour half a cup of water in a small saucepan and place the bowl or bottle into the water. Bring the ingredients to a bowl and allow it to warm after to melt them completely. Remove the bowl or glass from the heat and allow to cool before adding the activated charcoal. Mix the ingredients thoroughly. Pour the mixture into a small baggie then push it into a corner. Cut a small portion on the corner to transfer the mixture into an old mascara tube.

Blush. How about adding some color to your cheeks? To make your own blush, you will need some hibiscus powder, arrowroot powder, and cinnamon if you want. Add a tablespoon of arrowroot powder in a small bowl and add hibiscus powder slowly until you get your desired color. If you want to get more glow and depth to your color, add some cinnamon into the mix. Just make sure that you add ingredients little by little so you won’t end up making too much blush.

Eyeliner. Another cosmetic recipe that is worth making is your very own natural eyeliner. Eyeliners shouldn’t disappear in your makeup kit as it can enhance those beautiful eyes of yours. To make one, you will need some coconut oil, activated charcoal, and cocoa powder. If you want to make a black eyeliner, simply combine activated charcoal with coconut oil. On the other hand, the cocoa powder and coconut oil combination will yield a brown eyeliner. Use an eyeliner brush to apply this makeup on your eyes.

Natural foundation. The foundation is usually the base when applying makeup so for this product, you will need to use arrowroot powder as the base. Choose among cocoa powder, nutmeg, or ground cinnamon next or a combination of any of these ingredients. Don’t forget the jojoba, almond, or olive oil. To make your foundation, you should start with a teaspoon of arrowroot powder if you have dark skin or a tablespoon if you have fair skin. Slowly add the coconut powder, nutmeg, or ground cinnamon into the mix until you get your desired shade. To make your foundation more compact, add some jojoba, olive, or almond oil into the mixture and press down until the particles are all squeezed. Just start with five drops of your choice of oil then keep adding until you have achieved your desired consistency.

As you can see, making your own cosmetics means having more control on what goes in your makeup. The best thing about these recipes is that you can make them anytime and even save you a few bucks too.
