Many health problems come from unhealthy eating habits that leads to multiple nutritional deficiencies. These problems usually appear on our body over time. If you’re unsure of your diet, here are some warning signs that can tell you if your diet is bad for you.

Premature Aging

We all have to grow old, but looking ten years older than your actual age can be a symptom of a poor diet. A proper diet can keep your skin looking young and healthy. A balanced diet will keep the elasticity of your skin and prevent it sagging. Having a diet that is rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin D and vitamin E can keep premature aging at bay. If you start noticing fine lines and wrinkles on your skin add more skin protecting nutrients in your diet, such as berries, carrots and raw vegetables.

Oral Health

Mouth pain, bleeding gums, tooth loss, dental caries and inflamed gums are a sign that you need to improve your diet. Been to the dentist for more than cleaning for the past few months? Diets that are high in sugar can cause all of these dental dilemmas, constant exposure to sugar can damage the teeth. Drinking sodas or carbonated beverage will erode the enamel on your teeth and cause oral caries. Try cutting down on your sugary drinks and opt for healthier alternatives. Add more vitamin C rich foods to reduce swelling in the gums and prevent bleeding gums. Examples of foods that are rich in vitamin C are strawberries, leafy greens, potatoes and tomatoes.

You can say a lot about your health from your nails and hair. Malnutrition is easily noticed through your hair strands. When you start to notice your hair falling out, increase your intake of fatty acids, protein, vitamin C, iron and zinc. This will make the hair stronger and prevent the loss of pigmentation that causes white hair and brittle hair strands.

Unintentional weight loss or gain is a common sign of a poor diet. Weight loss is a sign of malnutrition and weight gain is a sign of excessive consumption of food. A few pounds of unintentional weight gain and weight loss is acceptable, but continually weigh gain/ loss should be taken seriously. Unfocused or Forgetfulness

It’s a common warning sign of poor nutrition. The human brain function with good nutrition and rest. Once you start to lack this nutrition the brain is not able to function to its full capacity. You can fix this by adding more omega 3 rich foods in your diet, such as salmon and mackerel.

If you notice more than two of these warning signs, it’s time for a change. You don’t have to change all at once. Small and simple changes in your diet can help you to a healthier lifestyle. Instead carbohydrate loaded noodles, pick wheat noodles. Substitute sugary filled beverages with fresh fruit juices. Simple changes to your diet will improve your body and combat nutritional deficiencies.
