Tips to Better Sleep

Must read

Everyone knows that sleep is important because this is the time where your body starts to heal after a long and grueling day. The problem, however, is that there are some people who don’t really get a good night’s sleep perhaps because they’re thinking of a lot of things, they drank tea or any caffeinated drink a few minutes before bed time, and a host of other reasons. Sleeping for just a few hours is not really good for you and may affect your performance the following day. So how can you improve your sleeping time?

  1. Focus on what you drink and eat. Health experts recommend that you watch what you eat and drink especially if you are after a good night’s sleep. It’s important that you don’t go to bed with your stomach rumbling because you’re hungry or if you’re too full because the discomfort you’re feeling may just prevent you from sleeping well. Also, drinking too much before bed time may cause you to wake up in the middle of the night just to go to the bathroom.
  2. Power down your gadgets. This is a good habit you might want to keep especially if you’re having trouble sleeping. Experts recommend that you power down your gadgets at least an hour before bedtime including dimming the lights. Keep in mind that when the lights in your room is still bright, your brain is actually keeping you wide awake so by dimming your surroundings, you are telling your brain that it is time to get some sleep.
  3. Have a bedtime ritual. Another trick to making your sleep time better is to make a nightly bedtime ritual. It can be taking a warm bath, listening to music, or even reading a book. Just make sure that you don’t use your gadgets before you sleep because studies have shown that they can disrupt your sleep.
  4. Experts recommend that you make exercise a part of your daily ritual. Even if it is just a few minutes of your time, you’re actually improving your sleep when you exercise those muscles. Just make sure that you don’t do it too close to your sleep time otherwise you might not get enough sleep because you’re senses are still up.
  5. Follow a sleep and wake schedule every day. Some people may scoff at the idea of having a sleep and waking schedule especially during the weekends but this can actually help you get the best sleep you’ll ever have. When you stay up late, you’re actually making your body’s natural clock to shift making it difficult for you to sleep earlier on a Sunday which, eventually, will leave you a rough start come Monday.
