How to Tell If Your Period is Coming

Must read

Do you hate surprises? If you do, then having your period, which can sometimes make its presence known a little early than usual, can be an extra stressful experience for you. Well, you can actually get rid of the element of surprise by knowing some of the warning signs that your period is about to show up.

The following are some of the indicators that you are about to have your monthly visit:

Pimples and Acne

Hormones in your body shift prior to having your period, and you can easily tell that with the help of your skin — it can become oilier due to the enlargement and hyperactivity of your sebaceous glands. As a result, pimples and acne show up, and this is something that can contribute to the following symptom.

Mood Swings

Do you feel perfectly fine one moment and then suddenly feel depressed the next? Having mood swings is one of the clear indicators that you are about to have your period. And as expected, it has something to do with hormonal imbalance. But worry not because your emotions tend to stabilize as soon as your period strikes.

Insomnia

Here’s another thing that can make your mood swings worsen: insomnia. Having sleepless nights can definitely make you feel so cranky the following day. Luckily, something as simple as not stressing about the various symptoms you are experiencing can help you have a good night’s sleep.

Hot Flashes

It’s perfectly normal for you to experience quick sensations of heat most especially on your face a couple of days before your period, and you can blame your hormones for it. Sometimes hot flashes can pester you at bedtime, leaving you with night sweats that can definitely make it even harder for you to catch some Z’s.

Breast Tenderness

Prior to having your period, you will notice that your breasts are kind of tender — the fact that they’re also so sensitive to the touch can make matters a lot worse. It’s not unlikely for you to also notice some lumps in your breasts, but don’t be alarmed because they will go away on their own when your period starts.

Abdominal Cramps

So many women complain of experiencing abdominal cramps a few days before their period. It’s not unlikely for the belly to appear swollen, too, because of bloating. If you are prone to having abdominal cramps on a monthly basis, then there’s an item that should be within your easy reach: a hot water bag.

Headache

Experiencing bouts of headaches is undeniably one of the most annoying things that you can experience a couple of days before having your period. Don’t worry as a headache will leave you alone as soon as your period actually happens. But in the meantime, popping your trusted OTC painkiller in your mouth will help make that nasty headache bearable.

Back Pain

It’s also very much possible for your back to hurt a few days before your period finally shows up. The pain oftentimes is concentrated in the lower back, and it may radiate down to your thighs, too. Again, you can count on your favorite painkiller for this issue, or you may also try some all-natural remedies for back pain.

Food Cravings

Days before having your period, you may find it a great struggle to steer clear of foods that you have been avoiding all this time to maintain your weight. Giving in is not a good idea because most of the foods you are craving, in particular those that are laden with sugar, will only worsen the various symptoms you’re experiencing.
