Lessen Your Back Pain with These Tips

Must read

We all experience back pain from time to time. This can be due to us lifting heavy weights, poor sleeping position, or sitting for hours on end. The pain can range from mild to severe which can prompt us to apply some topical painkillers to reduce the throbbing on the affected area. Aside from taking medications, you can reduce back pain by following the tips listed below.

Sleep on your side. Like it was mentioned before, poor sleeping position can cause back pain so why not sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees. This will help keep your spine in neutral position so you won’t strain the muscles on your back. If you are going to sleep on your back, make sure that you place a pillow under your knees so that your back will remain straight.

Practice good posture. Sitting for long periods of time can lead to back pain especially when you’re slouching on your chair or you are bending forward too much. Even when you’re sitting down, you still need to practice proper posture as this will not only reduce back pain but it will also prevent your spine from getting too much pressure. This might sound uncomfortable at first but you’ll get used to it as long as you practice every day.

Consult a physical therapist. If you suffer from back pain constantly, you will need to have an expert check it out for you. A physical therapist will be able to teach you how to correct your posture, what exercises to do and what not to train your back. This will help reduce the pain on your back in no time.

Take breaks. As much as you would like to get your work done as quickly as possible, sitting too long can have a negative impact on your back which is why it is recommended that you take breaks every 30 minutes or so. This can be something simple as walking around the office or doing some light stretching to ease the tension from your muscles.

Don’t rest too much. There is a common misconception that you need to rest when you have back pain. Unfortunately, lying in bed can actually worsen your condition. What you need to do is do light exercises such as yoga or swimming as these low impact workouts can stretch tight muscles without causing pain. It will also help boost blood flow in your back which can treat back pain as well.

Heat and cold. Another possible remedy to lessen back pain is to apply some heat or cold compress on the affected area. The cold can help numb the area to lessen the pain while the heat can reduce inflammation.

If you are bothered by your back pain, the remedies mentioned above can help ease the pain that you are feeling. You can try them out if you like to see which one works best for your condition.
