Items You Can Use to Cover a Hickey

Must read

Hickeys are visible marks on the skin that takes a long time before completely disappearing. You can get hickeys or bruises like it from different things or people. It can be a struggle to hide this mark, especially when it is in an exposed area such as the neck, face or arms. Sporting this mark in public can be embarrassing and unprofessional. A lot of us struggle with knowing how to cover it without making it appear that you are trying to hide something. To help you out we’ve gathered some of the easiest methods of covering a hickey that you can do anytime.

Makeup

A lot of us has made the mistake of covering up a hickey with concealer alone and end up a few hours later mortified by the sight of visible red mark. Hickeys unlike normal blemishes needs a lot more than just concealers. You may need to gather some materials to pull it. May you be a guy or girl; you’ll have to take a trip to your local drugstore if you don’t have all of these items. You will need a green corrector, a concealer, a makeup brush (preferably a synthetic one), a purple corrector and a yellow corrector. Start hiding your mark with yellow corrector. Apply it on the inside of the hickey and apply the purple corrector on the outside. Use thick amounts of these products. By this time, you’ll notice that the mark is a lot less visible. To balance everything out and makes it appear natural with the green corrector all over the hickey. Use your finger to blend it together. If the color of the bruise is still visible, add a layer of foundation on top. To make sure that the makeup last all day, dab translucent powder on it. If you have one, apply setting spray on top of it and apply translucent powder again.

The Right Clothes

Covering a hickey with the right clothing is the easiest thing to do if you have the right clothes at home. Hiding a hickey on your neck with a turtle neck when it is the middle of summer is suspicious and irritating. The best you can do to hide it during hot seasons is through chunky accessories and scarfs. Chokers are great for hiding bruises on the neck. Avoid any clothing that draws attention to areas that you want to hide such as large logos around the neck, zippers and stripes. The busier or flashier your top is the more visible your mark can be. It’s a lot easier to hide your love mark during cold seasons. Wearing jackets, turtlenecks and long sleeves are completely acceptable. If you don’t really have anything to cover up your mark and you are desperate. There are now flesh toned bandages that can appear invisible from far away. If someone asks you where got it from make a believable excuse.

Massage

You can help blood circulation by massaging the area. Use your fingers to rub the hickey. Use a circular motion from inside the bruise outwards. This will help reduce the blood clots and improve circulation. Avoid adding too much pressure on the mark. Repeat this process a few times day.

Toothbrush

This method can’t make the hickey disappear, but it can help reduce its appearance. Take an old toothbrush and gently brush the area around the hickey and directly on the mark in a circular motion. Avoid pressing too hard – if you do, it can make the hickey appear worse. Continue brushing the area to improve circulation to reduce the redness of the mark. Apply cold compress on the area after brushing. Repeat these two steps until the bruise has lightened completely that I can be covered by a concealer or foundation.

Ice or Cold Compress

You can reduce the appearance of a hickey with cold since it can help reduce swelling and prevent the mark from becoming worse. You can use ice, a cold compress, a wet sponge inside a zip lock bag, a cold spoon. Apply any of these items on the bruise for about 20 minutes. When the item cools down, take a break and cool it again. Repeat the process until the color is significantly reduced. If applying ice or cold is causing too much pain, remove the compress.

A few things you have to remember to prevent the hickey from looking worst is to not apply heat on it until 48 hours have passed. If you apply heat earlier than that, the mark can become more prominent and take a longer time to heal. When applying ice, avoid direct contact. Use a cloth and press it around the bruise.
