Must read

There is this perception that eating a healthy diet requires a huge amount of work, counting and are quite expensive. But this is not true.

Eating better and healthier everyday involves simple and common decisions. You will eventually find out that they are just simple steps you can follow.

Below are 5 easy and simple tips to eat better and healthy daily:

1. Replace fruit juice and soda with lemon water.

If you want added taste in your drinking water, just add lemon to make it healthy. Lemons are rich in potassium and vitamin C. When they metabolized, they help a lot in weight loss and helps in flushing out toxins.

Fruit juices and sodas are packed with artificial flavoring and sugar, which leads to health issues such as diabetes and weight gain.

2. Eat more leafy green veggies.

We tend to focus more on what we will eliminate from our diet. Focus instead on adding what is beneficial and healthy. Eating more dark and green leafy vegetables is one way to upgrade your diet.

Kale is a good example of vegetable that is high in iron, anti-oxidants and fiber. Add more of this vegetable into your diet.

3. Avoid processed foods

Avoid eating processed foods as much as possible. Processed foods include canned foods, fast foods and some frozen foods.

These foods contain high levels of sugar, salt and preservatives. Upon undergoing processing, saturated fats are also added to increase shelf life and for added taste. A diet rich in processed foods can lead to diabetes, heart diseases and blood sugar spikes.

4. Cook with coconut oil.

Coconut oil may be high in saturated fat, but it is the type of saturated fat that does not react the same as the saturated fat found in animal products. It may help a lot in raising HDL or good cholesterol, reducing your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Though olive oil is good, it should not be used in high heat cooking because when oil begins to smoke, it releases carcinogens into the air, which creates free radicals within the oil.

5. Eat lean proteins.

Choose lean meat and proteins. Go for leaner foods such as pork and chicken instead of marbled beef or lamb fillets which contain unhealthy saturated fats. Also remove the fatty portion of proteins, like the skin of chicken and fat strips of fillets.

Make fish a regular part of your diet. Choose fish such as sardines and salmon which are healthy and are rich in nutrients.
