Home Remedies for Acne Excoriee

Must read

Acne excoriee refers to acne lesions that are repeatedly picked, squeezed or scratched impulsively. It is also sometimes referred to as “picker’s acne” because of the nature of its development. Needless to say, acne excoriee can lead to the worsening of acne lesions, often resulting in severe scarring.

The resulting scars may either be pits on the skin or hyperpigmented (the presence of excessive amounts of dark-colored pigments) areas. But before any type of scar shows up, acne excoriee can leave someone who has it to be bugged by even more acne lesions and scabs.

Experts say that acne excoriee is commonly seen in teenage girls, but older ones as well as males can have it as well. It is said that the problem is also commonly linked to the likes of anxiety, depression and various emotional problems. Because of this, counseling and behavioral therapy are commonly recommended.

Are you compulsively picking, squeezing or scratching your acne lesions? If so, you may end up with acne excoriee, and it’s something that will only make your skin problem worse. Here are some of the steps that you may take in order to put an end to the problem in the most natural way possible:

Get Rid of Acne Lesions During Their Acute Stage

Dealing with acne lesions before you end up doing things to them that can lead to their exacerbation is very important. While there are numerous solutions available at pharmacies and beauty stores, there are also a number of remedies available at home. Some of them include:

  • Lemon juice. You can daub it on acne lesions and allow it to stay there for a few minutes before rinsing it off with water. If the stinging is unbearable, wash your face immediately. The next time, dilute lemon juice with equal amounts of water before applying on problem areas.
  • Apple cider vinegar. A lot of acne sufferers swear by the effectiveness of apple cider vinegar in dealing with their skin condition. What you need to do is dilute 1 part of apple cider vinegar with 3 parts of water. Apply on acne lesions using a cotton ball. Do this before bedtime and wash off the next day.
  • Honey. Something as simple as smearing honey on acne lesions can work wonders. That’s because honey has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Some people combine honey and plain yogurt to have their acne healed at a much faster rate.
  • Papaya. Thanks to the amazing anti-inflammatory properties of papaya, this tropical fruit can be used for managing acne. What you need to do is get a small piece of ripe papaya. Mash it with a fork. Apply on problem areas and leave it there for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash off with water afterwards.

Look for an Activity to Perform Whenever You Get the Urge

Each time that the urge to pick, squeeze, and scratch your acne strikes, look for an enjoyable activity to perform that will take your mind away from your compulsion. Make sure that the activity is something that you love doing, be it playing the piano, writing in your journal painting. Activities that involve the hands are the best ones.

Manage Your Depression or Anxiety Very Well

Just like what’s earlier said, acne excoriee is commonly associated with the likes of anxiety and depression. If such is the case, then you will need to deal with the underlying cause. For instance, you may meditate, perform yoga or drink chamomile tea to help lower your anxiety levels. If mild depression is the source, then you can have your regular dose of exercise, get enough sunlight, drink green tea and eat dark chocolate.

Sometimes it will also help a lot if you seek the help of a professional. Many of those who have acne excoriee can attest to the benefit of undergoing the likes of counseling and behavioral therapy.
